Stanley's Trip to CERN and Rome

Stanley's Trip to CERN and Rome

Here is a collection of photographs of Flat Stanley, taken during his recent trip to CERN, in Geneva, Switzerland, and to Rome, Italy. Stanley was accompanied at all times by Uncle Steve and Aunt Valérie except, of course, during his visit to cyberspace.

Stanley at CERN

Stanley at CERN
Stanley at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, located on the French/Swiss border in Geneva, Switzerland. Note the Jura mountains (for which the Jurassic Period and Jurassic Park were named) in the background.
Stanley in Cyberspace
Here is Stanley after he was scanned and placed on the World-Wide Web. In fact, the Web was invented at CERN, as a way for scientists located all over the world to share information.
Stanley in ATLAS
Here, Stanley is inside a model of the ATLAS detector . This detector, which will start taking data in the year 2005, will be one of the largest, most complex particle detectors in the world. It may find out why particles (and nephews) have mass.

Stanley at Rome

Stanley on an Airplane

Stanley with the Swiss Guards

Stanley in St. Peter's Square
Stanley with Uncle Steve in the Piazza San Pietro or St. Peter's Square outside the Vatican.
Stanley in St. Peter's Square
Stanley and Uncle Steve visit some angels inside the Vatican. Although Stanley did get a chance to see the recently renovated Sistine Chapel, including Michaelangelo's famous ceiling, he was not allowed to take pictures.
Stanley at the Spanish Steps
Here is Stanley at the Spanish Steps in the Piazza Spagna. Can you see Stanley hiding behind the lamp?
Stanley at the Trevi Fountain
It's night time in Rome and Stanley has taken romantic visit with Aunt Valérie to the Trevi Fountain.
